JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk (WSKT) has officially begun construction on Building C of the Language Laboratory and Language Center of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (FIB UGM) in Yogyakarta. The project commenced following the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, August 10.

The Rp 113.08 billion building is targeted for completion in mid-2026, enabling it to be immediately used to support academic activities.

Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita stated that the company's scope of work includes preparation and provision of a Construction Safety Management System (SMKK), architecture, structure, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.

In addition, the company is also working on landscaping, supporting buildings, and site development.

"Waskita Karya is committed to completing the construction of Building C, FIB UGM, on time and in accordance with applicable standards. This project demonstrates the company's support for education in Indonesia," said Ermy in an official statement on Tuesday, August 12.

Building C, which faces Jalan Nusantara, will consist of eight floors for laboratories and classrooms, with one upper floor for utility access.

The design concept embodies the cultural character of the Nusantara (Indonesian archipelago) as expressed through the gate of the Majapahit Bentar Temple.

"The temple's footprint pattern forms the basis for the landscape, encompassing the anatomy of the head, body, and feet of the building. Furthermore, various plane elements on the building's exterior facade utilize openwork reliefs," he said.

Ermy explained that these reliefs reflect the decorative diversity of the Nusantara ethnic group. Furthermore, the center of the building features Javanese ornamentation, with sengkalan memed (a symbolic symbol of the UGM Faculty of Cultural Sciences) representing important years for the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Elsewhere, dark red brick is used to represent the faculty's identity.

"Building C is also equipped with a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) consisting of approximately 84 solar panels on the roof. The building will be surrounded by trees, creating a more beautiful appearance," he said.

As a state-owned construction company, Ermy continued, the company will continue to contribute to educating the nation's children through infrastructure development. As the demographic bonus approaches in 2045, WSKT recognizes the importance of improving educational facilities to produce future leaders.

Previously, Waskita completed the construction of Gadjah Mada University's iconic multi-purpose meeting hall, the Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) and the UGM Innovation and Creativity Building (GIK). It also worked on the Faculty of Health Sciences and Library Building of the University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok, West Java.

WSKT also participated in the construction of other major campuses in Depok, namely Packages I and III of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII).
