JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI, Titiek Suharto revealed that rice stocks in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi reached 500,000 tons, filled the entire BULOG warehouse and even rented third party warehouses.

This was revealed by Titiek after making a working visit of Commission IV of the DPR RI During Session IV of the 2024 '2025 Session Year at the Pamaikang Warehouse Complex, Perum BULOG Makassar Branch Office, South Sulawesi Regional Office and West Sulawesi, on Monday, August 11.

The visit of this member of Commission IV DPR RI was welcomed by the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi, Deputy President Director of Perum BULOG, Marga Taufiq, Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Fatmawati Rusdi, and Mayor of Makassar Munafri Arifuddin.

"We checked the BULOG rice stock here to make sure it was enough. It turned out to be enough. We also checked the rest of last year's rice imports that had to be issued immediately, and this has been slowly issued. So, for rice reserves in South Sulawesi, this is sufficient," said Titiek in an official statement, Monday, August 11.

Regarding rice prices, Titiek is optimistic that prices will return to normal through market interventions carried out by BULOG, especially through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization Program (SPHP).

"This is BULOG's job for market intervention. If the price goes up, they have to let go of the SPHP so that the price returns to normal. Hopefully, it can return to normal as soon as possible," he said.

In particular, Titiek also appreciated the existence of the Rice Processing Center (SPB) in the Palaikang Warehouse which was able to produce high quality premium rice.

This is extraordinary. It can later be implemented in other areas. The Red and White Cooperative can also be with smaller machines. This is not an oplos rice, but is made more beautiful and improved in quality," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy President Director of Perum BULOG, Marga Taufiq explained that the visit of Commission IV was aimed at seeing firsthand the condition and amount of rice stocks in South Sulawesi, including the old stock that was still stored in the warehouse.

Taufiq emphasized that the government and BULOG continue to take price stabilization steps through the distribution of Food Assistance (Bandang) and SPHP.

"Now we are issuing the Banpang program to the people who receive Food Assistance (PBP), as well as SPHP to reduce the price of rice which is temporarily rising. With the Government subsidies that intervene in the market, it is hoped that there will be no fluctuating rice prices," said Marga.

As of Monday, August 11, continued Taufiq, nationally, 328,000 tons of Food Aid had been distributed or 89.75 percent of the target distribution of allocations in June and July.

Meanwhile, the national distribution of SPHP since it was disbursed in July 2025 to date has reached 18,500 tons, including 2,400 tons in the South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi regions.

"Perum BULOG affirms its commitment to continue to maintain food availability, stabilize prices, and support government programs in realizing national food security," he said.
