JAKARTA - Natural resources in the marine sector are believed to have contributed to 8 percent economic growth as targeted by President Prabowo Subianto.

According to the Director General of Marine Spatial Planning of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Kartika Listriana, the marine sector in Indonesia has many potential resources.

"Mr. President (Prabowo) has assigned all his staff to grow the economy up to 8 percent, that's a tough task. Yesterday it was launched by BPS until the middle of this year, the economic growth was only in the range of 5.1-5.2 percent," Kartika said at the Morning Sea event entitled "Menata Ruang Laut Together Gen Z" which was monitored online via YouTube of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Monday, August 11.

"There is an increase in growth, yes, but this must be maintained and improved. The next five years is not a long time, but a short time. Well, the sea turns out to have very potential resources, in addition to talking about ecology," he continued.

Kartika explained that potential resources exist in the marine sector. For example, maritime logistics.

"When we talk about maritime logistics, it is also in the sea. Connectivity between islands uses the sea," he said.

Then, talk about energy. According to Kartika, the marine sector in Indonesia stores a lot of energy sources, both renewable and non-renewable energy (EBT).

"Tourism is also a lot. Then, there are also a lot of conservation itself," said Kartika.

Kartika assessed that marine spatial planning is very necessary.

Thus, it can create a balance for all people when developing energy, tourism to blue economy policies as launched by KP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

"Then, there are tourism activities. Everything must go hand in hand," he said.

Kartika said, the most important thing for the development of all these aspects is that it must not interfere with the ecology.

"That is the importance of spatial planning, the existence of a balance (for) all sectors to achieve economic growth of 8 percent in the future," he concluded.
