JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) officially launched the Garbage-Free Healthy Sea Program or Wet and the National Mangrove Area Groundbreaking in Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Wednesday, August 6.
Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Didit Herdiawan said the launch of the program was a form of the government's commitment to dealing with marine debris in Indonesia.
In addition, the KKP's main commitment is to save the ecosystem, both on the coast to remote islands.
Didit ensured that the agenda would not only be a mere ceremonial, but would be followed up with continued activities in other areas.
"The Kick-off of the Sewet Sea and the National Mangrove Area are part of saving the ecosystem. Of course, if it is withdrawn, there will be coasts, remote islands and rivers as well as estuarines and so on related to marine activities," said Didit.
"The role of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs continues to be pursued to be improved. So, we are all able to carry out healthy marine activities free of garbage," he continued.
The Deputy Minister added that the Sewet Sea Program was a concrete step taken by the KKP starting from upstream to downstream. In fact, his party ensures that the KKP does not work alone to realize the program.
"We must collaborate together with ministries/agencies up to the regional and individual levels to support each other's Wet Program which we carried out this morning," he explained.
In addition to launching the Sea Wet Program, KKP also conducts groundbreaking of the National Mangrove Area which is expected to be a form of environmental conservation and useful for carbon sequestration.

According to Didit, the launch of the National Mangrove Area is important for marine habitats in which there is marine ecology, from the base to the surface.
"The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries seeks to preserve ecosystem activities so that they are maintained as the main part. Of course, this activity together will also be able to have an impact on coastal communities and remote islands to be able to enjoy the results. Not only is it carried out by the ministry, but the community is also involved," he concluded.
It is known, the Sewet Sea Program is an implementation of five blue economy policies initiated by the Minister of KP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to realize a healthy sea as a support for economic growth and social life for the community.
