JAKARTA - Ahead of the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, convection industry players are starting to feel a decline in demand for products typical of independence, such as t-shirts, jerseys, and red and white flags.

Chairman of the Berkarya Convection Association, Nandi Herdiaman, expressed his concern regarding sluggish sales in the community. He assessed that the decline in purchasing power affected people's interest in buying independence attributes.

"Maybe people's purchasing power now is not doing well," said Nandi when contacted by VOI, Monday, August 4.

Nandi, who is also a producer, said that he had produced around 20,000 pieces of Indonesian Independence Day-themed shirts, both for children and adults. However, until early August, the sales figure was still very low.

"I myself have produced 20,000 (Indonesian Independence Day). It's really quiet until now. There are no boosts yet," he said.

According to him, this condition is not only felt by him, but also by many other small and medium-sized convection actors who have been regularly producing independence attributes.

"Entering August 1, usually 50 percent have been sold. On average, friends on August 1, there were already many orders. Now only 10 percent have been sold," said Nandi again.

Convection business actors hope that the government will intervene by providing certainty and support to the domestic industry, including by encouraging the national movement to shop for independence products.
