JAKARTA - The Association of Indonesian National Aviation Airlines (INACA) encourages long-term strategies to strengthen the resilience of the national aviation industry to face global challenges and maintain the sustainability of air services throughout Indonesia.
"During 2024 and 2025 the national aviation industry has not improved and still faces many challenges, both global and national challenges," said INACA Chairman Denon Prawiraatmadja in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 2.
According to him, the heating of global geopolitical conditions affects various things in the aviation industry, such as disruption of supply chains for aircraft and spare parts, as well as the price of oil and rupiah exchange rates against the United States (US) dollar which tend to increase.
Domestically, he said, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, policies and the business climate, which was colored by sharp business competition, also made the aviation industry not return as before the pandemic.
This resulted in the number of domestic passengers for scheduled flights during 2024 to stagnate with 2023. In addition, the number of planes also got off because many aircraft entered the Repair and Overhaul (MRO) treatment and had difficulty getting spare parts.
According to him, there are several national flight challenges, both for scheduled, unscheduled airlines, and cargo that must be addressed with aviation stakeholders, namely regulations that are less flexible; risk of rupiah exchange rate against US dollars; procurement of spare parts; relations with airport and Airnav managers.
Furthermore, the problem of flight operations is not scheduled (night fly, special flight, ambulance water and others; as well as Illegal charter (illegal charter flight).
"Short, medium and long-term strategic steps are needed, so that this challenge can be resolved immediately and the aviation industry recovers as before the COVID-19 pandemic," said Denon.
INACA hopes that the discussion of aviation industrial problems will be holistic and comprehensive, starting from business and flight operations to supporting matters by involving governments across ministries and institutions; business circles; academics; media; and society can continue.
Second, we will continue to discuss efforts to improve the financial condition of airlines, both scheduled, unscheduled, cargo and pioneering airlines through fairer aviation business operations regulations.
"The three hold comprehensive flight connectivity with a hub and speech system for both domestic and international flights," he also said.
The fourth is to deregulate the export-import spare parts process, both attached and not attached to the plane using the Ilustrated Part Catalog (IPC) and based on the Tokyo Round rules from the WTC.
Fifth, increase the implementation of the safety management system (SMS) and increase safety culture in flight operations from all stakeholders, be it regulators (government), aviation operators (airlines, airports, MRO), and the community.
"The sixth is the formation of the Transportation Board in collaboration with other modes of transportation and relevant stakeholders to develop multi-modal transportation in order to support Indonesia's national economic growth," said Denon.

INACA also hopes to increase stakeholder support in the aviation sector towards national airlines, both scheduled, unscheduled, cargo, and pioneering.
This can increase flight connectivity and bridge development gaps, support decentralization, increase local commodity competitiveness, and increase its function as a catalyst for local economic development so as to ensure that no Indonesian territory is left behind.
"In addition, the development of a strategic aviation sector can also increase domestic, regional and international accessibility, encourage national economic mobility, and provide added value to the country," Denon said again.
