The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to accelerate the completion of the Cijurey Dam in Cariu District, Sukamakmur District, Bogor Regency, West Java.

By the end of June 2025, the physical progress of the Cijurey Dam construction had reached 30.30 percent with a financial progress of 20.39 percent of the multiyear contract (MYC) plan.

"The construction of this dam is part of the government's long-term commitment to strengthening water security, supporting food security through increasing agricultural productivity and reducing flooding," said PU Minister Dody Hanggodo in a written statement, Saturday, July 26.

Dody did not deny that the construction of this dam faced several technical obstacles. Among other things, the potential for landslides, rearranging the location of public facilities to adjusting construction designs.

"The Ministry of Public Works also continues to coordinate with local governments and the community so that social impacts can be minimized fairly and participatively," he said.

With an inundation area of 56.15 hectares and a capacity of 14.37 million cubic meters, Cijurey Dam after officially operating will supply irrigation water for the Cihoe 'Cikampeni' Region covering an area of 1,486 hectares and in Ciomas 'Install a 60 hectare Bedil and can increase the planting index (IP) from 180 percent to 265 percent and potentially add 501 hectares.

The Cijurey Dam was also able to reduce the potential for flooding in the downstream area of the Cihoe River, by lowering the Q25 flood discharge from 291.47 cubic meters per second to 118.53 cubic meters per second or about 59.33 percent.

Another additional benefit, namely the supply of raw water of 0.71 cubic meters per second for the Districts of Cariu and Sukamakmur and the potential for micro-hydro power plants (PLTM) of 1 MW and PLTS of 10 MW.

The work that has been running includes the construction of main dams, defect channels, delegation buildings, instrumentation work and right and left access roads.

"We ensure that all stages of development prioritize quality, accountability and construction safety, so that the benefits of this dam can be felt by the community and become an important part of sustainable development in the West Java region," concluded Dody.
