Gibran Reminds Energy Transition Not To Burden The Economy Of Small People

JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the big challenge going forward for Indonesia is to reduce dependence on fossil energy. Therefore, Indonesia must make an energy transition.

"So in the future challenges we can no longer depend on fossil energy. We have to make a transition to green energy," he said at the Green Impact Festival at the Djakarta Theater, Jakarta, Thursday, July 24.

Gibran also mentioned the issue of greenflation, which was discussed during the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres) debate. Currently, he said, greenflation is happening in big countries.

Furthermore, Gibran said the energy transition carried out not with the precautionary principle would trigger inflation. This condition is what he calls a greenflation.

This 'Greenflation' was once crowded during the presidential election debate. Some are confused, some are underestimated, some say this is not important, this is very important," he said.

"If we look at big countries, I know that maybe too ambitious, too excited, inflation occurs because the transition to green energy is too reckless," he continued.

Gibran said that in this country there was turmoil due to the oil tax (BBM), gas and electricity rose due to inflation triggered by the energy transition.

He also admitted that he did not want similar conditions to occur in Indonesia. Therefore, Gibran emphasized that the energy transition must be carried out with the principle of caution so as not to trigger economic burdens for the people and small industries.

"That's why in the future we have to be careful, be careful not to let people, small people, small industries be affected because of things like this. So if in a country that I don't need to call this, there is a demonstration, yes, because fuel taxes go up, gas goes up, electricity goes up, we don't want to be like that," he said.
