The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs emphasized that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PT Pertamina (Persero) and three energy companies from the United States (US) related to oil and gas imports and refinery investments are still in the business evaluation stage.
Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso explained that Indonesia had indeed approved the planned import of energy commodities from the US worth US $ 15 billion, as well as agribusiness commodities of US $ 4.5 billion.
"For energy, yesterday from Pertamina (through) PT Refinery Pertamina Internasional was already in the hands of MoU with the three largest (energy companies) in the US, both ExxonMobil Corp, Chevron Corp, and KDT Global Resource LLC," he told the media crew, Friday, July 18.
However, he stressed that the implementation of the MoU still refers to business considerations and calculations.
"It is certain that it will also depend on what kind of business calculation. So it cannot be immediately forced to buy. Not so. The subject remains to business considerations, what the calculation will be like," he said.
Susiwijono explained that the MoU includes plans to import crude and liquid oil gas (LPG), as well as investment in the oil fuel refinery (BBM) sector, especially gasoline.
Furthermore, he said that the details of the implementation of this MoU will be discussed further with the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
