JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan), Sudaryono emphasized that the practice of counterfeiting fertilizers is a heinous act that is classified as a crime against humanity.

According to him, this action must be eradicated to its roots because it has a serious impact on the welfare of farmers and national food security.

"Falsification of fertilizer is wrong. It is very wrong. Because this is not only deceptive about nutritional content, but also destroys the hopes and hard work of farmers for one season. Evil against people is a crime against humanity," he said in a written statement, Thursday, July 17.

The Deputy Minister said, the loss due to counterfeiting fertilizer is very large. The loss will be a burden for farmers, including extending to President Prabowo Subianto's priority program, namely food self-sufficiency.

"If there are thousands or even millions of farmers who are victims, the losses could reach trillions of rupiah and threaten our food security," he added.

The government through the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to synergize with law enforcement officials and all stakeholders to eradicate the practice of counterfeiting fertilizers for the realization of advanced, independent, modern agriculture, and for the welfare of sustainable national farmers and food security.

Sudaryono also appreciated and thanked the ranks of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for proactively following up on cases of fertilizer counterfeiting.

"Thank you Polri for following up. This is a crucial step to protect farmers and ensure that they can work calmly without worrying about counterfeit fertilizers," he concluded.

Previously, the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, revealed that there were 5 counterfeit fertilizers in Central Java. According to him, the counterfeit fertilizer caused losses to farmers of up to trillions of rupiah.

Based on these findings, Amran has reported to the Central Java Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) to be followed up.
