Wamena Airport Runway Will Be Extended, The Papeg Provincial Government Prepares IDR 24 Billion

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Mountains (Papeg) through the local Transportation Service (Dishub) has budgeted approximately IDR 24 billion for additional runways or runways at Wamena Airport (Bandara) in 2025.

Acting (Plt) Head of the Papeg Transportation Agency Jimmy Yoku when contacted in Wamena, Saturday, July 12, said Wamena Airport Runway was currently being worked on.

"Yes, this year we have budgeted for an additional 70 meters of runway to increase flight access at Wamena Airport," he also said.

According to him, the additional runway is still in the process of being worked on and is expected to be completed soon.

"The process of temporary work by third parties, and we hope that the work will be completed soon and can be used," he said.

He explained that currently the Runway length of Wamena Airport is around 2,000-2,400 meters, and the addition of 70 meters is being carried out.

"Of course the additional runway will increase airport capacity in serving more aircraft, both for takeoff and landing," he said.

He added, with the additional runway, the airport can handle more aircraft at one time, reduce density and waiting time for aircraft.

"By extending the runway to accommodate aircraft with a certain wide body or type of aircraft that require a longer runway, they can land at Wamena Airport and encourage an increase in the tourism sector," he said.
