JAKARTA - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) President Director Tony Wenas and PT Solder Tin Andalan Indonesia (Stania) Director An Sudarno signed the Heads of Agreement (HoA) for lead and silver purchases generated from PTFI's Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) facility.
Just so you know, Stabia is a subsidiary of Arsari Group owned by President Prabowo Subianto's younger brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo.
The signing was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming of Todotua Pasaribu, and the President Director of PT Arsari Tambang Aryo Djojohadikusumo in Batam, Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Tony explained that in this agreement PTFI will supply raw materials in the form of silver and lead produced from PTFI's PMR facilitation to Stania for tin solder production.
PTFI produces silver and also by other products like lead. That's what we will then supply to Stania for solder tin mixtures. The amount is approximately 10 tons of silver per year and 250 tons of lead per year," said Tony, Friday, July 11.
According to Tony, the demand for metals from PTFI purification in the country is very important.
"We hope that the domestic industry will absorb and now it is proven that there is demand and we will continue to encourage it. Not only PT Stania but we also hope that there are others who need our purification metals for domestic consumption, so that the downstream ecosystem related to advanced products and also the EV ecosystem can be quickly achieved as expected by the government," Tony said.
PTFI's Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) is one of the gold and silver bullion producers in Indonesia with a purification capacity of around 50 tons of gold and 200 tons of silver per year and Platinum Group metals, namely 30 kg platinum, 375 kg of palladium.
In July, PTFI PMR has produced silver bullion. The current estimate until the end of 2025, PTFI will produce 100 tons of silver. Meanwhile, for lead production, it is 2 thousand tons per year," said Tony.
Tony added that the signing of the HoA between Freeport Indonesia and Stania is a commitment in realizing downstreaming in the country.
Strengthening this statement, Director Stania Sudarno explained that the synergy between PTFI and Stania is an important step in realizing Indonesia's independence in the mining sector, especially in silver downstreaming.
'Silver and lead are needed as a mixture to produce solder tins. Stania's current need for lead is 250 tons per year. While at this starting point the need for silver is 10 tons per year," said Sudarno.
He said this step was in line with the government's efforts to reduce dependence on imported products and encourage the use of domestic products.
PTFI's absorption of silver and lead is Stania's commitment to strengthening business. In addition, by strengthening the procurement of domestic raw materials, the company does not depend on imports," said Sudarno.
