JAKARTA - The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) officially canceled the draft Decree of the Minister of PKP Number/KPTS/M/2025 regarding changes to the provisions of subsidized houses.

This was conveyed by Ara in a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission V of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 10.

On this occasion, Ara expressed her apology for having issued a plan to change the area of subsidized houses.

"We first apologized. I have an idea that may not be right, but the goal is quite good. But, maybe we also have to learn that ideas in the public sphere must be even better about reducing subsidies," he said.

According to Ara, the idea arose because there were many requests from the younger generation to live in urban areas, but the price of the land was quite high.

"So, the goal is actually simple, because we heard that a lot of young people want to live in the city, but if the land is in an expensive city, they want to be reduced," said Ara.

However, said Ara, because he had heard a lot of input, he canceled the idea.

"But I have heard so much input, including from friends from Commission V members of the DPR, so I openly apologize and I withdraw the idea," he concluded.

Previously, Minister Ara planned to make rules regarding changes to the provisions of subsidized houses.

The issue of reducing the size of subsidized houses is stated in the draft Decree of the Minister of PKP Number/KPTS/M/2025.

Later, the Ministry of PKP plans to reduce the land area to a minimum of 25 square meters and a building area of at least 18 square meters.

The land area and subsidized housing building are currently regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (Kepmen PUPR) Number 689/KPTS/M/2023.

In the regulation, the land area is regulated at least 60 square meters and is at most 200 square meters high.

Meanwhile, the building area is set at least 21 square meters to 36 square meters.

Ara assessed that the drafting was to encourage the construction of subsidized houses in urban areas.

"(In urban areas) the existing land is very limited," said Ara during a meeting with a number of Ketum of the Development Association in Bandung City as quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, June 3.

Therefore, Ara assesses that home design creativity from developers is needed and makes consumers have more choices of living in urban areas.

"In addition, it will be very good for developers because they are required to be more creative and consumers with more choices of houses," he said.
