Airlangga Affirms RI And US Agree On Further Steps To Negotiate Residual Tariffs

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Government Delegation led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held a meeting with the US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the United States Trade Representative Jamieson

This meeting is an important step in efforts to strengthen trade cooperation between Indonesia and the United States (US).

Following US President Donald Trump's announcement on July 7, 2025, the Indonesian delegation became one of the first countries received by the US Government to discuss the continuation of the tariff agreement and this reflects the strong commitment of the two countries to maintain the stability of trade relations.

During the meeting, Airlangga expressed his appreciation for the negotiation process that had been running constructively with the US side.

He explained that the negotiations included tariff issues, non-tariff barriers, the digital economy, economic security, and commercial and investment cooperation.

According to him, Indonesia and the US have agreed to intensify tariff negotiations in the next three weeks to ensure the best results for both parties.

"We already have the same understanding as the US regarding the progress of the negotiations. In the future, we will continue to strive to resolve these negotiations with the principle of mutual benefit," said Airlangga in his statement, Thursday, July 10.

Airlangga also emphasized that the relationship between Indonesia and the US so far has been very good and needs to be strengthened.

"We want to improve Indonesia's commercial relations with the US. Last week, Indonesian companies in agriculture and energy signed an MoU with US companies to purchase US superior products and increase investment," he continued.

Airlangga said that Indonesia would continue negotiations with the US in good faith, ensuring that the cooperation that was established was able to provide tangible benefits for the two countries.
