JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a positive performance in the retail goods transportation sector during Semester I 2025.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said that until the end of June 2025, the volume of retail transportation consisting of Package Distribution Goods (BHP) and Parcel reached 118,077 tons, an increase of 16 percent compared to the same period the previous year which was recorded at 101,617 tons.

According to him, this achievement also supports the national development agenda through Asta Cita 3, namely increasing quality employment opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, developing the creative industry, and continuing infrastructure development.

Anne said that specifically in June 2025 alone, KAI succeeded in serving 19,714 tons of retail transportation, an increase of about 14 percent compared to June 2024 which amounted to 17,226 tons. This trend reflects the growth of people's needs for fast, reliable, and efficient inter-regional goods delivery services.

"This significant increase shows customer confidence in train-based logistics services that continue to grow, both from business actors and the general public," he said in his statement, Saturday, July 5.

Anne explained that KAI's retail transportation business model is basically business to business (B2B) with logistics partners who have established official cooperation.

However, he said that this service is also open to the general public through a business to customer (B2C) scheme by utilizing KAI partners such as expedition service providers, e-commerce fulfillment, to intercity delivery.

Anne said that KAI sees the growth of this sector as a positive signal over the wider penetration of rail modes in supporting daily economic activity.

According to him, MSME players, online shops, and individuals who need fast and safe distribution of goods now have alternative logistics transportation that is more efficient and sustainable.

He said that in addition to encouraging economic equity, rail-based retail transportation also contributed to reducing carbon emissions.

"The rail mode is known to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly than road-based transportation, supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target launched by the government," he explained.

Anne conveyed that in order to expand the reach of services, KAI also continues to develop multimodal logistics integration through collaboration with strategic partners in the first mile and last mile sectors.

According to him, this effort is expected to strengthen the national logistics ecosystem that is reliable, fast, and adaptive to the need for digitalization and growth in online spending.

In the future, Anne said that KAI will continue to improve the quality of retail logistics services, both in terms of timeliness, transparency in tracking, and delivery security.

"We are committed to providing logistics services that are not only efficient, but also have a positive impact on local economic growth and environmental conservation," concluded Anne.
