JAKARTA - The head of the Hashim Djojohadikusumo Housing Task Force has opened his voice regarding the discourse on reducing the subsidized house area to 18 square meters.

He said the proposal was not final and was still in the study stage.

"I think 18 square meters are being studied. That is being studied," he said when met in the South Jakarta area, Thursday, June 26.

According to Hashim, the government also opens the possibility of setting subsidized house standards ranging from 36 to 60 square meters.

"I was just told about that, there was that idea. But generally later it will be more standard, approximately 40 meters, there are 60 meters, there are 36 square meters, that's standard," he explained.

Hashim added that the final determination of the subsidized house size standard will also adjust to the policy of PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk or BTN as the main financing institution.

"What will determine later is Mr. Nixon (Director of BTN) who will finance, this is Mr. Nixon. BTN has its own standards, there are guidelines, Mr. Nixon, yes BTN. So we will study that later. But the important thing is standard first, "he said.

Previously, the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) said that there had been no final decision regarding the area of subsidized houses to be reduced to 18 square meters with a land area of 25 square meters.

"I am now in the stage of receiving input. Later in time, we will decide on time. We have not decided anything today," said Ara in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 18.

Ara emphasized that currently the PKP Ministry is still receiving input regarding the draft area of subsidized housing buildings being reduced. According to Ara, he received input and criticism from various parties, both regarding size, design, financing and location.

With the existence of an example house for the latest size, said Ara, the government provides an opportunity for people to choose a house that suits their needs, such as wanting a location in the middle of the city or far away but with a wider size.

In my opinion, what I did was a step to hear the public's voice. By happening like this, we have to listen, including criticism. There are pros and cons, so it's normal," he added.
