JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono signed a memorandum of agreement or MoU with the Governor of West Java (Jabar) Dedi Mulyadi regarding the synergy of planning, development and management of aquaculture in order to support the revitalization of ponds on the North Coast (Pantura) of Java, today.
The plan is that the KKP will revitalize the Pantura pond with a total of 78,550 hectares (ha) of pond candidates in the next two years.
Especially this year, the government is pursuing the revitalization of the 20,413.25 ha pond area in four West Java districts, namely Bekasi, Karawang, Subang and Indramayu.
Of the total land, in Bekasi there are potential ponds covering an area of 8,188.49 ha, in Karawang covering an area of 6,979.51 ha, in Subang an area of 2,369.76 ha and in Indramayu an area of 2,875.48 ha, most of which belong to the state and are included in the plan for prospective ponds to be revitalized.
Trenggono said the program could create jobs for more than 100,000 workers and have the potential to create new industries.
In addition to signing with the Governor of West Java, the Directorate General of Aquaculture KKP also signed a memorandum of agreement with the Regent of Bekasi, Regent of Subang, Regent of Karawang and Regent of Indramayu.
"This 20,000 hectares will absorb more than 100,000 people who are directly dedicated, no less than 40,000 people. That must be fulfilled from the people of West Java. That was what we signed with five regents in West Java," Trenggono said during the MoU signing ceremony at his office, Wednesday, June 25.
On the same occasion, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said that the revitalization of ponds in four West Java districts was like a glimmer of hope for the local community.
