Grab Explains The Implementation Of 20 Percent Cuts Based On Basic Tariffs, Not Total Passenger Fees

JAKARTA - Grab explained that the application rate cut of 20 percent is based on the basic tariff, not the entire tariff paid by passengers to driver-partners.

Country Managing Director of Grab Indonesia Neneng Goenadi gave an example, if the basic tariff is Rp. 13,000, then Granab takes a commission discount of Rp. 2,600 or 20 percent and driver-partners are entitled to Rp. 10,400.

In addition to paying the basic fee, passengers must also pay additional cost components such as platform service fees of IDR 2,000 and carbon costs of IDR 200.

Thus, after deducting the promotional discount of Rp1,000 passengers in total, you must pay a fee of Rp. 14,200.

Neneng said that the additional costs charged to passengers were not part of the basic tariffs Grab deducted from driver-partners.

"The DRIVER (driver) often calculates 20 percent of the Rp14,200. In fact, it should be 20 percent of the basic tariff of Rp13,000. So the driver takes home Rp10,400," he said.

"And this is in accordance with KP 1001 of 2022. So the 20 percent commission must be calculated from the basic tariff," he added.

The Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KP 1001 of 2022 regulates the maximum commission for applications from online motorcycle taxi services of 15 percent + 5 percent.

Neneng explained the calculation of the application discount from the cost of online motorcycle taxi services because so far there has been a miskrah regarding the app tariff cut, which makes passengers and driver partners feel Grab taking the commission too large from travel costs.

He conveyed that a 20 percent cut in app rates was used to provide various support to driver-partners, including insurance support, operational allowances, and the development of security features.

"What is the use of this profit-sharing commission for? For safety insurance. So, 100 percent of travel in the application is protected by Grab insurance, both drivers and passengers," he said.
