PT PLN (Persero) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 6 strategic partners related to the development of the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) in Indonesia.

PLN's Director of Retail and Commerce, Edi Srimulyanti, said this collaboration was a follow-up to the assignment given by the Government to PLN as stated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 79 of 2023 and Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 1 of 2023 concerning the acceleration of the provision of battery-based electric vehicle charging infrastructure or Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

Edi said the development of SPKLU requires a collaborative approach that involves multi-party parties to create a solid, inclusive, and sustainable EV ecosystem.

"Synergy between PLN, business partners, universities, and international institutions is an important foundation for strengthening the national electric vehicle ecosystem. Through this collaboration, we not only build infrastructure, but also prepare national capacity in EV technology and services," said Edi, Monday, May 26.

Edi explained that through this MoU, PLN and strategic partners will work together in the development of SPKLU, starting from providing land, charging stations installations, to consumer development and services studies for electric vehicles.

Six strategic partners in collaboration with PLN in this collaboration include PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, PT Elnusa Tbk, PT Wirani Sons, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).

Through this collaboration, the expansion of SPKLU access can run faster and evenly throughout Indonesia, so that people are more comfortable turning to electric vehicles as part of a greener and more sustainable lifestyle.

"We hope this collaboration will be an important stepping stone in building a solid electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. The support of all parties will accelerate EV adoption and support the achievement of the Net Zero Emissions target by 2060," concluded Edi.
