Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono said that red and white village cooperatives are an effort by the government to create productive jobs in villages.

Thus, the village did not lose most of the youths to the city.

The man who is also the Coordinator for the Daily Executive of the Task Force for the Acceleration and Establishment of the Red and White Kopdes/Kel said the initiative was aimed at preventing the phenomenon of "elderly villages" as happened in Japan.

It is believed that the red and white Kopdes will restore the confidence level of village youth to build their villages through various productive economic activities in the cooperative ecosystem, so that villages will become a source of new economic strength for the country because they are able to create jobs independently through cooperatives.

"Now the situation is quite worrying because only 40 percent of the youth in the village are left. If we don't quickly make productive activities in the village, after a while in the village only parents or the elderly are like in Japan," Ferry said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 21.

According to Ferry, the lack of employment in villages encourages people to move to cities, so that villages do not get attention in their development.

In fact, he continued, in the village there is a lot of potential that can be developed when there is collective awareness.

After this cooperative institution is formed, the Ministry of Cooperatives will make improvements to its business model, which in the stipulated provisions there are at least seven business units that will be run by the red and white Kopdes.

The seven business units are the main ones because they will accommodate all basic needs of the village community.

Even so, the Ministry of Cooperatives provides flexibility for the management of the red and white Kopdes to develop their business units in accordance with the potential and character of each village.

"Later, we will accompany the process until October 2025 in stages. So, outside of the seven core activities, cooperatives can carry out business activities in accordance with the potential of the village," continued Ferry.

The presence of these seven main business units is expected to solve other problems outside of employment issues.

The red and white Kopdes is believed to be able to play a role in stabilizing the prices of basic commodities, as well as overcoming the entanglement of online loans and online gambling (judol) which are rife among villagers.

"We estimate that each red and white Kopdes will require at least 25 people directly. Later, we will prepare apprenticeship training with 90 percent practice and 10 percent theory," he said.
