JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) cooperates with the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) to accelerate the certification of waqf land in the country.
Minister of ATR/Head of BPN Nusron Wahid said the government is determined to register 90 percent of waqf land within the next five years.
"With this MoU, we, the Ministry of ATR/BPN, also find it very helpful," said Nusron as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Tuesday, May 20.
Based on data from the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), there were 561,909 plots of waqf land, but only 267,994 areas were registered with a total area of 25,874 hectares.
This means that only about 47.6 percent of the certified waqf land. Meanwhile, for this year, the number of certified waqf land has reached 2,411 plots.
Since March 1, 2025, said Nusron, his party has opened a special counter to serve waqf land certification, foundations and other community organizations (ormas).
This policy is intended to accelerate the administrative process which so far is considered to take quite a long time.
"Every year we issue around 7 million certificates, including the Complete Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL). Therefore, for waqf land, we need acceleration so that the process does not experience long queues," he said.

The signing of the MoU is also part of the synergy between the Ministry of ATR/BPN and DMI in implementing land registration as well as providing assistance for the prevention and handling of land problems on assets owned by DMI.
Meanwhile, DMI Chairman Jusuf Kalla said that the waqf land certification program was one of DMI's main focuses in the 2024-2025 period. According to him, certification is an important thing that can avoid potential conflicts.
"There are rarely conflicts in mosques, but there are many disputes in schools between waqf descendants. We don't want this to happen in mosques," he said.
