JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo ensured that phase I handling of 100 People's Schools will be completed this year. At least as many as 65 People's Schools will be completed in early July.

"From the 100 People's Schools phase I, as many as 65 schools have started light to moderate renovation work since last week. God willing, these 65 schools can be completed in early July," said Dody at the Coordination Meeting of the Ministerial Level of Infrastructure and Infrastructure of the People's School Network at the Ministry of Social Affairs office, Jakarta, as quoted from his official statement, Tuesday, May 20.

Dody detailed that as many as 65 People's Schools that have been handled include 13 schools in Sumatra, 34 schools in Java, three schools in Kalimantan, eight (8) schools in Sulawesi, three (3) schools in Bali/Nusa Tenggara, two (2) schools in North Maluku and two (2) schools in Papua.

As for the other 35 schools, said Dody, his party is still conducting a survey to the proposed location. He targets that the People's School renovation work will be completed in September 2025.

"For the 35 schools the target is to finish in September 2025, but we will try to finish it in July or August," he said.

The handling of the Phase I People's School is a renovation work which includes repairing the existing school building structure to providing furniture. Meanwhile, the handling of phase II which is targeted for completion in 2026 is in the form of construction work for new school buildings.

According to Dody, his party has verified as many as 219 proposed locations for the Phase II People's School with details of 35 locations approved and 184 other locations not approved.

He considered that the cause of the unapproved proposal for the location of the People's School was because the land certificate was incomplete so that the land did not comply with the provisions.

"For those that are not approved, we will ask the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) or the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) to propose a more appropriate replacement location," said Dody.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Public Works for moving quickly in handling the People's School infrastructure, so that it could run smoothly as planned.

The man who is often called Gus Ipul hopes that the Ministry of Public Works can maximize the completion of phase I so that it can be on time or even sooner.

"So that the second phase of development can be started and completed more quickly so that it can be used for the 2026 school year," he said.
