AMDK Manufacturer Will Turn Used Plastic Bottles Into Shirts To Shorts

JAKARTA - bottled drinking water producer (AMDK), Le Minerale stated its readiness to reduce national waste by 2029.

This is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 75 of 2019.

"We want to show that how high-value PET plastics are and are in great demand, one of which is the fashion industry which usually uses polyester materials whose incident comes from rPET," said Sustainability Manager Le Minerale Irene Atmadja.

Just so you know, Le Minerale collaborated with two local fashion brands, Pijak Bumi and Kivee, to launch fashion products made from Le Minerale's used plastic bottles.

So far, many people do not know that plastic bottles and gallons do not become waste when managed properly and can have a meaningful and functional 'second life' or can be a stylish fashion product that can be used every day," said Irene.

The fashion products will be made from one type of cloth, namely a mixture of Tencel and a Recycling PET.

The first collection consisted of short-sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and shorts.

"Currently fashion is certainly not only a matter of style, but also a matter of value and impact where apart from using recycled cloth, RPET materials also embraces female craftsmen in Sumba for their embroidery motives. These collaboration products are proof that we can remain cool while caring for the environment," explained Kivee Chief of Operations Helen Bellina.

Kivee's Creative Director, Holy Veronica, added that his party has long had a great desire to launch a recycling collection.

On the other hand, an overview of the recycling process of PET bottles is also displayed in sneakers from Pijak Bumi.

This design features 100 percent recycled PET cloth on the outside of the shoe.

"Hopefully through this collaboration, the public will be more aware that recycled materials can be converted into creative products that are comfortable to use in everyday life," said Earth's Pijak Co Founder Vania Audrey.
