PT PAL Targets Foreign Investors To Build Shipship Plants In RI

JAKARTA - PT PAL Indonesia is targeting foreign investors to invest in Indonesia to build factories or shipping industries in the country.

"One of them (attractive investors), then growing the domestic industry," said Marketing Director of PT PAL Wiyono Komodjojo after PT PAL Indonesia's Business Gathering event in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 28.

Wiyono said that the value of the shipping industry has a fairly large value. One machine, he continued, could cost up to 25 million US dollars or around IDR 421.47 billion (exchange rate of IDR 16,858.60).

Therefore, PT PAL Indonesia wants to attract investors to invest in developing the domestic shipping industry after seeing a fairly large business opportunity.

In addition, Wiyono also highlighted the impact of multipliers from the development of the industry.

With the construction of the shipping industry, factories will be opened that absorb labor, improve people's skills in this field, so that they can become one of the products exported by Indonesia.

"It will have a fairly big positive impact on Indonesia," said Wiyono.

He said there was market potential with PT Pertamina (Persero), because the state-owned energy company would build hundreds of tankers, and there were 15 tankers prioritized domestically.

If the tanker can be built domestically, including with its engines, PT PAL can cooperate with engine manufacturing interested in building its domestic engine industry.

"So we can uniform the needs of hundreds of tankers, fishing vessels, and so on, so that there is a manufacturing or engine factory in the country," he said.

PT PAL Indonesia's Business Gathering aims to realize this collaboration, so that ship component products that have been imported can be produced domestically.

"That's the goal of this business gathering, as an acceleration step so that our TKDN can be lifted, so the domestic industry will develop," said Wiyono.

He stated that PT PAL Indonesia and the Indonesian Ship Component Industry Association are committed to supporting and realizing the independence of the maritime industry, both in the defense and non-restriction sectors that are reliable.
