Pertamina International Refinery Production Smooth Fluid For Drilling Mud

JAKARTA - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) supports the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) program by producing Smooth Fluid (SF) products.

Just so you know, SF is a material used as drilling mud.

"SF is a KPI product produced from Dumai Refinery, Balikpapan Refinery and Cilacap Refinery. KPI has 3 SF variants, namely SF02, SF04 and SF05," said KPI Corporate Secretary Hermansyah Y Nasroen, Friday, March 21.

KPI's ability to produce SF, said Hermansyah, is proof of KPI's capability in producing high-quality products.

"The upstream oil and gas industry has high characteristics of technology and risks. One of the important processes in upstream activities is drilling activities. In the process, pressure control is needed from drilling points. One of them is done with the right use of drilling mud. Apart from the quality of this product, the SF produced by KPI is increasingly in demand by Cooperation Contract Contractors because it has a fairly high TKDN," explained Hermansyah.

SF05 products have a TKDN biological body of around 75 percent, while SF02 products have a much higher TKDN content of around 95 percent.

"Throughout 2024, KPI has produced 134,000 SF barrels. We certainly hope that this product can increase production in the future in line with the increasing use of SF in the upstream oil and gas industry," said Hermansyah.

According to Hermansyah, another advantage that KPI has is integrated refinery management. If in the past the SF product variant was produced according to the refinery, now the product can also be produced by other refineries as needed.

Of the three SF variants, SF05 products are the most widely used SF products.

"SF-05 was first produced at the Balikpapan Refinery in 2007, and this is one of the mainstay products of KPI. Now, Dumai Refinery has also been able to produce similar products," said Hermansyah.

Dumai Refinery previously had SF 02 products. This product has a slightly different characteristics from SF-05.

Unlike the previous product SF-02 which excels for drilling activities at sea, this SF-05 product excels for on-ground exploration activities with low impurities advantages.

The success of the Dumai Refinery in producing SF-05 products, continued Hermansyah, shows KPI's ability to integrate its business processes.

"With the existence of 2 units capable of producing SF-05, of course, the certainty of the supply of this product will be more secure in the future. And this will certainly provide certainty of the availability of these products. With the quality of the SF-05 product, we believe that KPI can become one of the important supply chains in supporting upstream oil and gas activities in Indonesia," concluded Hermansyah.
