JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto led the delegation of the Republic of Indonesia to attend a series of meetings with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in order to accelerate the Indonesian accession process to become a full member.
The visit marked the Government of Indonesia's strategic steps in strengthening Indonesia's economic integration with the global economy and accelerating efforts to get out of the country's trap with medium-income traps.
As stipulated in Presidential Decree Number 17 of 2024, Airlangga is assigned as Chief Executive of the OECD National Accession Team.
Airlangga is scheduled to meet with French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Eric Lombard; Secretary General of OECD, Mathias Cormann; and a meeting with a number of OECD State Ambassadors Australia, Japan, Netherlands, England, Poland, Ireland, Germany, France, and South Korea.
In addition, Airlangga conveyed this meeting affirming Indonesia's commitment to carrying out the necessary structural reforms in order to be in line with OECD standards.
"Meeting with the Secretary General of OECD is needed to discuss further steps related to the Indonesian accession process, especially the delivery of Indonesia's Initial Memorandum at the Ministerial Level OECD Council Meeting in June 2025," Airlangga said in his statement, Tuesday, March 4.
The process of accessing Indonesia to OECD involves an in-depth evaluation process related to aspects of economic governance and public governance, as well as capabilities, capacities, and engagement, as well as roles at regional and global levels from Indonesia on the world economy.
"Currently, the Indonesian government is in the stage of completing the Initial Memorandum document to assess the suitability between policies, regulations, and the Indonesian Government's standards for OECD instruments," he explained.
During the meeting, Airlangga will deliver various initiatives and policy reforms that have been carried out by Indonesia to encourage the OECD accession process.

As the country with the largest economy in ASEAN and the only Southeast Asian country that is part of the G20 forum, Indonesia has an important role in the global economy.
Airlangga conveyed that by adopting policy standards from OECD, Indonesia is expected to increase national competitiveness in various sectors and fields, including investment, trade, economic governance, and social policy.
"The Indonesian government is optimistic that Indonesia's access to OECD will have a broad positive impact, both in improving the quality of economic policies and in increasing stronger international cooperation," said Airlangga.
