JAKARTA - Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works (PU) Lilik Retno Cahyadiningsih said routine maintenance activities for dams and irrigation could no longer be carried out 100 percent this year.
This is due to budget cuts at the Ministry of Public Works following the issuance of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2025 concerning Expenditure Efficiency in the Implementation of the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget and Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget for Fiscal Year 2025.
Initially, the Ministry of Public Works budget was set at IDR 110.95 trillion, then cut IDR 81.38 trillion. Thus, the remaining IDR 29.57 trillion.
However, the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) carried out reconstruction, so that the budget cuts of the Ministry of Public Works became smaller. Thus, the Ministry of Public Works' budget for this year is IDR 50.48 trillion.
Lilik added that periodic maintenance activities could no longer be carried out in 2025.
"For routine maintenance, it may be around 70 percent, yes. Then if the maintenance is periodic, it will be abolished," Lilik said when met at his office, Friday, February 28.

According to him, the operation and maintenance officers (OP) of water resources are now working. The reason, said Lilik, is that if they don't work, it is feared that no one will control the floodgates at the dam.
As a result, it can cause flooding, especially during the rainy season.
"Yes, they have (worked). So, if ( OP officers) are not fulfilled, later when the flood, there will be no one running around the door, all of them flooded," he said.
He assessed that routine maintenance for dams and irrigation is carried out every year. However, with this year's budget efficiency, the Ministry of Public Works can no longer carry out routine maintenance 100 percent.
"Pertahankan rutin itu memang setiap tahun ada bukan bukan bukan tidak lanjutan, tapi memang kami pilih yang prioritas untuk tahun ini," pungkasnya.
