Call Telkom Directors, Erick Thohir Discuss Data Center Business Development

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir summoned the board of directors of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. One of the discussions at the meeting was related to the development of the data center business.

"Today I discussed with the Directors of Telkom Indonesia to discuss the data center business development strategy to ensure Telkom continues to innovate and adapt to the challenges of the times," Erick wrote as quoted from the official Instagram @erickthohir, Friday, February 14.

Erick said it was necessary to accelerate the modernization of digital infrastructure to support the economic growth target set by President Prabowo Subianto.

In addition, according to Erick, modernization of digital infrastructure also needs to be done so that Telkom foam competes at the global level.

"Acceleration of digital infrastructure modernization is needed to support economic growth of up to 8 percent launched by President Prabowo Subianto so that he can compete at the global level," Erick wrote again.

He said the Ministry of SOEs also continues to encourage state-owned companies to provide the best services. As well as strengthening digital sovereignty in the country.

"We at BUMN continue to encourage the best service and strengthen Indonesia's digital sovereignty," said Erick.

Previously reported, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (TLKM) is currently focusing on building a data center. This data center is built both internally and in collaboration or in collaboration with other companies.

Head of Digital Vertical EcOSystem Government & Public Service Telkom Indonesia Gde Ngurah Sandhy Widyasthana said data center is something that is very necessary for future business continuity.

Because in the future data centers are needed. Especially those that can be AI (artificial intelligence) continue to pay attention to ESG as well, energy saving, green, and so on. For your information, Telkom through its subsidiary PT Telkom Data Ekosistem (Neutra DC) has built an AI data center in Batam, Riau Islands. The data center is targeted to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.

The data center, which is located in the Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate, has three data center buildings or campuses, with a total area of up to 10 hectares, and the capacity reaches 50MW. The technology investment reached IDR 1.5 to IDR 1.6 trillion.

This tier IV data center will be able to accommodate data on artificial intelligence of up to 70 percent of the total capacity. With this project, Telkom's contribution to the country can exceed IDR 50 trillion in one year.

Telkom is also targeting to build a data center with a total capacity of 500 megawatts by 2030. One of them is to accommodate the AI adoption trend.
