JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo opened his voice about the viral 18,000 employees being laid off.
The news went viral on social media after the Ministry of Public Works budget was cut to IDR 81.38 trillion.
Dody also denied that the ministry he led laid off employees.
He said what actually happened was a contract renewal process.
"After the contract. The next contract is not yet, we can't do the next contract because, right, the budget is still being reviewed," said Dody to reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12.
According to Dody, his party has not been able to renew the contract because part of the budget is still blocked by the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani. This was done because of budget efficiency
He said the contract renewal could only be done after the blocking was complete.
However, Dody did not tell when the blocking would open.
"Hopefully it will be opened as soon as possible and close immediately," he said.
Previously, news went viral that 18,000 employees of the Ministry of Public Works had been laid off.
