Bank Indonesia Reveals That The Real Sales Index Is Estimated To Continue Growing In January 2025

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) noted that retail sales performance is predicted to continue to grow in January 2025, this is reflected in the Real Sales Index (IPR) which is predicted to reach 211.3 or an annual growth of 0.4 percent (yoy).

Executive Director of the BI Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the retail sales performance was mainly supported by the growth of the Cultural and Recreational Goods Group and Information and Communication Equipment which increased compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, the Parts of Cadang and Accessori, Motor Vehicle Fuel, as well as Food, Drinks and Tobacco continued to grow, although it was slowing down compared to the previous month.

As for monthly, retail sales performance in January 2025 is predicted to contract 4.8 percent (mtm), after growing 5.9 percent (mtm) in December 2024.

"The majority of groups are recorded to have contracted, except for the Cultural Goods and Recreation Group, which is influenced by the normalization factor of public demand after the celebration of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN) for Christmas and New Year (Nataru)," he said in his statement, Wednesday, February 12.

As for December 2024, IPR was recorded at 222 or an annual growth of 1.8 percent (yoy), higher than the growth in November 2024 of 0.9 percent (yoy).

Denny said that growth in December 2024 was mainly driven by the Parts of Cadang and Accessori as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods.

On a monthly basis, retail sales performance in December 2024 grew by 5.9 percent (mtm), better than the previous month which contracted 0.4 percent (mtm).

Meanwhile, all commodity groups recorded positive growth with the highest growth in the Information and Communication Equipment Group, followed by the Parts of Cadang and Accessori, as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods.

Denny said the increase was driven by increasing public demand in line with the celebration of HBKN Nataru.

Meanwhile, in terms of prices, Denny said that inflationary pressures for the next 3 and 6 months, namely in March and June 2025, are predicted to increase.

According to him, this is reflected in the General Price Expectation Index (IEH) in March and June 2025, which were recorded at 179.0 and 152.3, respectively, higher than the previous period which was recorded at 160.2 and 151.1.

Denny said the increase in the IEH March 2025 was driven by price increases in the month of Ramadan and HBKN Eid al-Fitr, while the IEH June 2025 was driven by the Iduladha HBKN and the new school year.
