JAKARTA - One of the PLN Nusantara Power generating units, the Muara Tawar Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) has officially increased the capacity of its generating machines.

Add on PLTGU Muara Tawar with a capacity of 650 Mega Watt (MW) is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) in the electricity sector which includes 26 power plants and 11 transmissions and substations in 18 provinces.

After being inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Monday, January 20, now PLTGU Muara Tawar has a total capacity of 2,700 MW and is one of the backbones of the national electricity supply, especially in supporting important areas around Jabodetabek.

President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah explained, PLTGU Muara Tawar acts as a peak generator, which is a generator that is operated to meet electricity needs at peak load.

"The ability to respond quickly from its gas turbines allows this plant to operate immediately as electricity demand increases sharply, thereby maintaining the stability of electricity supply," he said, Saturday, January 25.

In addition, this PLTGU is also equipped with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Plant facility that supports the restoration of the Jamali electricity system when there is a disturbance or blackout.

PLTGU Muara Tawar has proven its reliability with an operational readiness level above 90 percent, in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Corporate (NERC) international standards. This achievement cannot be separated from the support of competent human resources and well-maintained infrastructure.

Responding to the increasing electricity needs in the Java-Madura-Bali region, continued Ruly, PLN NP has completed an add-on Muara Tawar project that has increased its capable power by up to 650 MW and built on strategic land in Tarumajaya District owned by the company since 2008.

"This project is able to absorb up to 1,140 local workers with the absorption of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) citing 34.76 percent," said Ruly.

Ruly also highlighted the importance of PLTGU Muara Tawar as the main driver of electricity reliability in the Jakarta area. He emphasized that this plant plays a major role in maintaining electricity supply for VVIP needs such as government buildings and the Presidential Palace, with operations that always meet global standards.

"PLN NP is committed to continuing to maintain a stable electricity supply, especially for the DKI Jakarta area, including VVIP areas such as the DPR Building, MPR, ministries, and the Presidential Palace. Through add on PLTGU Muara Tawar, 417,195 tons of CO2 per year," explained Ruly.
