JAKARTA - The Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Mining Engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Prof. Ir Ridho Kresna Wattimena criticized a number of matters related to the university's proposal to be allotted to managing mines discussed in the Revision of Law (RUU) on the Fourth Amendment to Law number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining (Minerba).

In a meeting with the Legislation Body (Baleg), Ridho asked for detailed rules on the proposal. The reason is, in the draft only accredited universities can manage mines.

"He said universities can manage mines, my questions are accreditation, what level is it, sir? So will all universities give this priority," he said in a RDPU with Baleg, Thursday, January 23.

He explained that universities in Indonesia have so far been credited by the National Accreditation Agency (BAN-PT) with details of 3,360 "Good" accredited universities, 472 universities with "Good Accredited" accreditation and 149 'Unggul' accredited universities.

"Well, will this priority be given by all universities that are credited according to the Draft one? Is there a more detailed derivative of this bill or law?" he said.

Furthermore, he also questioned the type of land that the government would later give to universities. He gave an example, if later universities are given the opportunity to manage geonfield or land that has never been managed, it will take a long time and a big cost to manage the mine. Moreover, Ridho continued, mining entrepreneurship is not a fast-producing business or quick yielding.

"In the industry, public investigations have reached exploration of 5 to 10 years. Whether universities spend 5-10 years before they can get money, it is also something heavy for universities," said Ridho.
