JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo conveyed that the Ministry of Public Works as supporting units of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) for food self-sufficiency security programs has carried out surveys and verifications by the River Basin Center (BBWS/BWS) throughout Indonesia together with the Agriculture, TNI, and BSIP Offices on November 20, 2024.

Based on the results of the survey and verification, specifically for South Sulawesi Province, the total addition of an area of 213,521 hectares of the target of 291,666 hectares after optimizing land supported by the Ministry of Public Works and pumping by the Ministry of Agriculture.

"The additional planting area in South Sulawesi Province includes 37,987 hectares of irrigation from an optimization of 41,046 hectares of land and 134,488 hectares of pumping," said Dody in a written statement, Friday, January 17.

In land optimization, the Ministry of Public Works normalizes and maintains 2,600-kilometer primary, secondary and tertiary irrigation channels, building and rehabilitating 2,490 units of buildings/gates.

For South Sulawesi Province at FY 2025, the construction of the secondary canal for the Irrigation Region (DI) Baliase in North Luwu Regency is 10.16 kilometers long and the construction of the primary and secondary channels in DI Gilireng in Wajo is 12.04 kilometers.

"In addition, the rehabilitation of secondary channels in Saddang, Sidenreng Regency, is 3 kilometers long and the rehabilitation of primary channels in Kelara Karalloe is 1 kilometer long," he said.

As for Dody, today attends the 2025 South Sulawesi Province Food Coordination Meeting (Sulsel) in Makassar City.

The coordination meeting activity was led by the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan in order to increase coordination and collaboration in accelerating the implementation of the food self-sufficiency program, especially in South Sulawesi Province which is one of the rice barn areas in Indonesia.
