JAKARTA - Sun Life has distributed Rp275 million in funds to support the recovery of children and communities affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Nusa Tenggara.
In collaboration with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), a humanitarian organization that focuses on empowering children and vulnerable communities, this assistance is focused on meeting urgent needs in affected areas.
The funds will be used to fund various initiatives such as clean water distribution, construction of Temporary Learning Spaces, and launch of the "Child Friends' Car" program (Twisted Library for Children). These programs are designed to ensure the sustainability of education, provide access to safe drinking water, and provide psychosocial support for children who are traumatized by the disaster.
This eruption forced more than 12,000 residents in Ile Bura and Wulanggitang sub-districts to evacuate, with significant damage to houses, schools, and other public facilities. The assistance from Sun Life will be directly felt by 6,647 individuals from 1,916 households in East Flores and Sikka Regencies, covering eight villages in East Flores and two villages in Sikka.
Teck Seng Ho, President Director of Sun Life Indonesia, said that his party is committed to creating a brighter future for children and families by ensuring access to health and education.
"Through this collaboration, we hope to ease the burden on the affected communities, help children continue their education, and support their emotional recovery process," he said, in a written statement, Friday, December 6.
The emergency response program supported by Sun Life includes:men with the distribution of clean water: the provision of water reservoirs and the supply of clean water to five evacuation sites to meet the basic needs of the community. Temporary Learning Room: Provision of educational facilities in three main evacuation locations so that children can learn safely. Friend of Children's Cars: A mobile library that provides reading materials and educational sources to maintain the sustainability of children's learning.
In addition, Sun Life also supports a two-month monitoring and evaluation program to ensure the effectiveness of all implemented initiatives. With a real impact-based approach, the company is committed not only to providing short-term assistance, but also to contribute to a sustainable long-term recovery.
Angelina Theodora, National Director of Wahana Visi Indonesia, is very grateful for Sun Life's commitment and support for the disaster response carried out by WVI.
"The location of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male is close to several areas of the WVI program, so we will ensure that children and communities at the disaster site have proper support in the midst of this difficult situation," he said.
Sun Life believes that collaboration with various parties is the key to facing major challenges such as natural disasters. Through this initiative, Sun Life hopes to inspire more institutions to play an active role in helping affected communities and together building a better future for Indonesia.
