Minister AHY: Sea Embankment Becomes President Prabowo's 'Highlight'

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Development of the Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) Region revealed that the construction of the sea wall was the highlight of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Menurut AHY, pembangunan infrastruktur khususnya Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) dan giant sea wall (tanggu laut) menjadi highlights Presiden RI Prabowo Subianto.

"Wrap up treatment in Magelang about infrastructure, especially IKN and giant sea wall," he said in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, November 2.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure AHY and Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo held a meeting to discuss the response to Jakarta's land subsidence and anticipate flood hazards.

The meeting took place at the Office of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Central Jakarta on Friday, November 1.

"This afternoon, we hope that the Ministry of Public Works can explain what is being worked on, what progress and challenges are. The enthusiasm of the north coast of Jakarta, Tangerang to Bekasi can be safer because we know that Jakarta has decreased land and flood hazards and abrasion is lurking all the time," said AHY.

Minister Dody explained that the projected embankment length from Cilegon to Gresik reached 958 km.

"We have made Trial 1 from Tangerang to Bekasi for 43 km a few years ago with grants from South Korea and the Netherlands for basic design," said Dody.

The cooperation between Indonesia, South Korea and the Netherlands for the sea embankment began in 2016 with the formation of a Trilateral Cooperation. This aims to develop comprehensive strategies and business cases in an effort to restore the Jakarta Bay Coastal environment.

As a follow-up, in February 2017 a NCICD Project Management Unit (PMU NCICD) was formed. In 2020, the NCICD PMU together with the trilateral resulted in an Integrated Flood Safety Plan (IFSP) as an integrated flood control concept, focusing on providing clean water, increasing sanitation at the mouth of the river, and flood control.

If land subsidence in Jakarta continues, the last option is the construction of a 21 km sea wall sea wall sea embankment.

This stage B sea embankment will reduce the flood area by 112,000 m2 and reduce the potential loss to Rp600 trillion.
