JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said digitalization plays an important role in creating a more inclusive economy.

"People who live in remote areas, which may not be part of any financial institution, can use digital financial services to carry out financial transactions," Sri Mulyani said at the G20 GPFI High Level Symposium which was monitored online, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 4.

Sri Mulyani said that Indonesia's financial inclusion has so far made progress, where in 2021 domestic financial inclusion has reached 83.6 percent.

In the future in 2024, the government is targeting an even higher figure of 90 percent for economic inclusion. Thus, digitalization is the main component for the government to achieve that target.

The future step in achieving inclusiveness is to pay attention to integration, as well as other components, namely involvement, encouragement, and value strengthening.

Not only inclusiveness, Sri Mulyani assessed that digitalization also reduces transaction fees for several vulnerable groups, such as MSMEs.

"Digitalization and MSMEs are interrelated, especially in terms of finance," he said.

That way, he said, the Indonesian government continues to encourage the digitization of MSMEs. As of June 2022, 19.5 million MSMEs have entered the digital ecosystem.

For 2024, the government targets Indonesia to have 50 million MSMEs included in the digital ecosystem.

The government itself has also implemented digitization by providing and introducing digital payments, bookkeeping, and marketing in order to support MSMEs and in the context of empowering the sector which is very important.
