UI Chancellor Ari Kuncoro Officially Leaves From BRI, Shareholder Restui Rofikoh Rokhim As Deputy President Commissioner

JAKARTA - The Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) finally decided to accept the resignation of Ari Kuncoro as the company's deputy president commissioner.

Previously, Ari was noted to have sent a letter of dismissal addressed to SOE Minister Erick Thohir on 21 July.

"The Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders confirmed the honorable discharge of Ari Kuncoro as deputy president commissioner or independent commissioner," said BRI President Director Sunarso in a virtual press conference, Thursday, October 7.

Furthermore, the shareholders appointed Rofikoh Rokhim to fill Ari Kuncoro's position. It should be noted that Rofikoh previously also served as an independent commissioner.

Then, the shareholders also decided to appoint Heri Sunaryadi to join the company's board of commissioners to complement the current structure.

As previously reported, it is suspected that Ari's resignation was due to a violation of the applicable regulations. The reason is, he should not be able to occupy the chair of a high-ranking BUMN entity because he has previously served as Chancellor of the University of Indonesia (UI).

In Article 35 letter c of Government Regulation (PP) Number 68 of 2013 concerning the UI Statute (before any revisions) it is stated that the Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor are prohibited from concurrently serving as officials in state/regional or private-owned enterprises.
