JAKARTA - The Director of State Property of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) Encep Sudarwan said that the Tangerang Class I Correctional Institution (Lapas) is one of the government's assets whose management is under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

As for the fire incident that occurred in the prison, Encep stated that the state's assets were not included in the value protection or insurance scheme.

"Unfortunately, the prison has not been insured, so we are coordinating with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to follow up on the damaged assets," he said in a webinar organized by the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) on Friday, September 10.

According to Encep, his party has carried out an initial assessment of the value of the damaged assets in the prison.

"If the complex itself is worth Rp48 billion. But what was caught in the fire yesterday, after we checked it, was worth around Rp. 1.5 billion. Then, if it is added to the equipment and machines that caught fire, the additional loss is Rp. 75 million," he said.

As previously reported, a fire occurred at the Class I prison in Tangerang, Banten, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 8th. Initially, the incident occurred due to an electrical short circuit and the fire raged for approximately two hours.

This fire resulted in the death of 41 inmates, of which two were foreigners from South Africa and Portugal. Meanwhile, the injured victims have now been taken to the Tangerang Regional Hospital to undergo treatment and receive treatment.

The government itself is currently intensively insuring a number of state-owned goods in order to minimize potential losses.

Currently, there are 39 ministries and institutions that have started to insure all assets under their control. The government itself targets all central agencies to be able to do this until the end of 2021.
