JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) has connected the electricity network of three regencies in Papua, namely Dogiyai, Deiyai, and Paniai regencies which has an impact on increasing daily hours from 18 hours to 24 hours.
PLN Manager for the Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) Nabire Manihar Hutajulu said his party activated six generating machines with a total capacity of 3.6 megawatts to supply electricity to 6,342 customers in the region.
"Hopefully the addition of this electric clock can provide good benefits, and encourage increased economic growth, health services, education and others for the people in Dogiyai, Deiyai and Paniai," he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Saturday, August 21.
Currently, the peak load of electricity use in the three districts is two megawatts. The company still has a power reserve of 1.6 megawatts.
The increase in the electric clock is a special gift in the moment of the 76th independence anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
Manihar explained that his party had connected the electricity systems in the three regencies with a total network length of 200 kilometers (kms).
In addition, PLN has also repaired and replaced the damaged network with an investment of IDR 21.6 billion.
"In the future, we will continue to make efforts to strengthen it through network expansion, additional equipment and periodic maintenance, so that the electricity supply from the generator can be distributed more optimally," said Manihar.
In addition to focusing on providing access to electricity for areas that do not have electricity in Papua and West Papua, PLN also continues to strive to increase the hours of operation in locations that have access to electricity with limited hours.
PLN has started efforts to increase the hours of operation since February 2021. Previously, the electricity system in each of the three districts was independent.
The company then connected the electricity grids of the three districts and centralized power plants in Deiyai Regency to improve the reliability of electricity supply.
The increase in hours of operation is expected to encourage development that has a positive impact on economic growth in the region.
The Regent of Paniai Meki Nawipa appreciated PLN's performance in increasing the hours of electricity from 18 hours to 24 hours.
"Thank you for the cooperation with PLN so far, so that our proposal for electricity in Paniai, Deiyai, Dogiyai to be lit 24 hours can be realized," he said.
He further advised the public that after the additional hours of electricity, they could support PLN's efforts to maintain the electricity supply.
"To the people whose trees interfere with the electricity network, both the medium voltage network (JTM) that is already operating, and the location where the JTM will be built. No more problems with PLN so as not to interfere with the reliability of electricity in Paniai, "said Nawipa.
