Erick Thohir Mourns The Death Of Former SOE Minister Sugiharto: He Was Extraordinary, Once Had An Anti-KKN Breakthrough

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir is deeply saddened by the death of the Minister of SOEs for the 2004-2007 period, Sugiharto, who was considered an extraordinary figure.

"He is an extraordinary figure, one of which is the anti-KKN breakthrough and also the obligations of BUMN related to social and environmental responsibility," said Erick Thohir at the 2021 AKHLAK Awards online event in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, July 15.

Erick said that the deceased was still part of the human capital capacity building carried out in the current transformation.

"Of course every day sad news from colleagues who are fighting against COVID-19 arrives. Health workers, friends, and of course this morning we lost someone I respect, we love and are proud of and yesterday also actively helped us in the Islamic Economic Community which of course should be with us this morning, Mr. Sugiharto, Minister of SOEs 2004-2007," he said.

Sugiharto was born in Medan, North Sumatra, on April 29, 1955. He served as Minister of State for SOEs in the United Indonesia Cabinet, from October 2004 to May 2007. Sugiharto also served as a director at PT Medco Energy Tbk (MEDC) & President Commissioner of Pertamina.

Other positions he has held include Director of Finance and President Director of MedcoEnergi, President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) to becoming Advisor to the Board of IDB Member Countries Sovereign Investment Forum.

Sugiharto graduated from the University of Indonesia and then continued his education at the School of Management in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Gajah Mada University.
