Improving Sharia Human Resources Capability, Bank Sumut Builds Synergy With Muamalat Institute

JAKARTA - The Muamalat Institute (MI) is collaborating with PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Sumatera Utara (Bank Sumut) related to basic education training in Islamic banking for employees or staff of the company.

Muamalat Institute Executive Director Anton Hendrianto said this collaboration is a form of Bank Sumut's concern for the quality of human resources (HR) in the company's environment as well as a tangible manifestation of the development of the sharia ecosystem in Indonesia.

"We believe that this initiative can encourage the contribution of the Bank of North Sumatra to improve the ecosystem and sharia business in the country, especially those related to financial service products," he said in a press statement as quoted on Monday, June 14.

According to Anton, Bank of North Sumatra has a strategic role in the development of an Islamic-based economy in the Sumatra region. This is because the proud bank of North Sumatrans is the main financial partner for the local government.

In addition, the capital city of North Sumatra, namely Medan, is the largest city in Sumatra as well as the third largest in Indonesia. For this reason, the provision of sharia principles to human resources is quite important in capturing market opportunities.

"Through increasing employee competence, there will be more positive thinking in producing sharia banking products that are more varied and in accordance with the needs of an increasingly diverse society," he said.

On the same occasion, the Director of Business and Sharia of Bank Sumut Irwan said that the synergy built with the Muamalat Institute was the company's long-term plan to develop Islamic-based banking products.

“Alhamdulillah, more and more people are being moved to focus more on the Islamic financial economy. Currently, we are implementing a balanced dual banking system for customers, and it is proven that we have received positive responses and results to be able to continue to contribute to the national sharia economic industry," he said.

For information, the Muamalat Institute is a business wing of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia which is engaged in education, training, and financial services consulting, especially those with a sharia pattern.

Meanwhile, Bank Sumut itself is a banking institution most of whose shares are owned by the North Sumatra provincial government as the controlling company. In terms of performance, Bank Sumut is known to have posted a net profit of IDR 515 billion throughout 2020 with an outstanding credit record of IDR 23.6 trillion.
