JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has brought back Semen Kujang, a legendary brand that was once an icon of the cement industry in West Java. The return of Semen Kujang marks SIG's strategic move to strengthen penetration in the West Java market through a combination of local heritage and product technology innovation that is more relevant to current development needs.
Semen Kujang was recorded as the first cement product in West Java in 1975. This cement of pride for the people of West Java is now back to carry local wisdom, as well as cutting-edge technology to create a more solid, more relevant cement product, and ready to answer the challenges of the future.
The history of Semen Kujang began with the establishment of PT Semen Cibinong in 1971 by PT Semen Gresik (Persero) together with Gypsum Carrier and Bamerical International Financial Corporation. Construction of the plant began in 1973 in Narogong, West Java. In 1975, the cement plant with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year was inaugurated by President Soeharto and began operating under the brand Semen Kujang.
Two years later, in August 1977, PT Semen Cibinong carried out an Initial Public Offering (Initial Public Offering) which made it the first company to list on the stock exchange after the Indonesian capital market was reactivated.
Now, SIG is bringing back Semen Kujang to better meet the needs of quality building materials for the people of West Java with a new face, premium quality, and technology designed to produce more sturdy and durable buildings.
"Semen Kujang is a local heritage that has been part of the history of West Java development. The relaunch of Semen Kujang is also in line with SIG's transformation strategy to continue to provide innovative, quality, and sustainable building material solutions, as well as to make a real contribution to the development of West Java and strengthen the competitiveness of the national building materials industry," said Indrieffouny Indra, President Director of SIG in a press conference launching Semen Kujang in Bandung, Wednesday, August 5.
Semen Kujang is a type of Portland Composite Cement (PCC) cement according to SNI 7064:2022 produced by SIG's subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, at the Narogong Plant, West Java. This product is equipped with Active Micro Particle technology, an innovation of micro particles that can fill the material cavity more optimally so as to produce a building structure that is denser, stronger, and more durable.
SIG Sales and Marketing Director Dicky Saelan explained that the technology provides three main advantages, namely stronger adhesion, smoother finishing surface, and denser casting results.
"We want to present a product that not only has premium quality, but also brings back the pride of West Java people to the brand that has been part of the history of the development of this area," said Dicky Saelan.
In a press conference, SIG also announced a strategic partnership between Semen Kujang and PERSIB Bandung. Through this collaboration, the Semen Kujang logo will be displayed on the official PERSIB jersey during the period of cooperation as a symbol of synergy between two institutions that have strong roots, a long history, and emotional closeness to the people of West Java.
As part of efforts to strengthen closeness to the people of West Java, SIG will implement a partnership with PERSIB through various brand activation programs, community activities, and collaborative initiatives that bring a closer experience for people in various areas in West Java.
"PERSIB has become a symbol of pride for the people of West Java through various inspiring achievements. Therefore, we are proud to be able to establish a strategic partnership with PERSIB. The partnership between Semen Kujang and PERSIB is not only a form of support for the club, but also a representation of our commitment to continue to be present, grow, and provide benefits for the people of West Java. We hope that Semen Kujang can be part of every community development process while bringing added value through this collaboration," added Dicky Saelan.
Deputy CEO of PT PERSIB Bandung Bermartabat, Adhitia Putra Herawan, welcomed the partnership and assessed that this collaboration was built on the common values possessed by both institutions.
"We welcome the trust of SIG to establish a strategic partnership with PERSIB for the next three seasons. PERSIB and Semen Kujang have the same spirit, namely growing together with the people of West Java and becoming part of the journey of this region. The partnership between Semen Kujang and PERSIB is a symbol of collaboration that we hope will not only strengthen both brands, but also inspire the community to continue to be proud of the work of the nation's children and together contribute to the progress of West Java," said Adhitia Putra Herawan.
