Mojokerto Tissue Products Penetrate US To European Markets, First Exports Released Directly By The Vice Minister Of Trade

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Jerry Sambuaga held a ceremony to release 130 tons of tissue products from Mojokerto, East Java produced by PT Sun Paper Source to the United States, Germany, Japan, China and Australia.

According to the Vice Minister of Trade, this step is in line with efforts to boost export activities of Indonesian non-oil and gas products as well as concrete steps in maintaining the momentum of national economic growth amid the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This export proves that Indonesia can actually produce quality products that have high added value so that Indonesia's role at the global level can continue to be improved," in an official statement as quoted by VOI on Sunday, June 12.

The Vice Minister of Trade added that the acceptance of domestic production by the international market proves that the capabilities of local industries are not inferior to big corporations in the world.

“In the future, I am optimistic that we can take a more significant role in the global chain of quality products. We can because we have the capability and resources,” he said.

In addition, the expansion of national business actors in reaching foreign market shares cannot be separated from the role of government diplomacy to various friendly countries.

"The trade agreement provides incentives, both in terms of tariffs and non-tariffs, for various Indonesian export products," he said.

Furthermore, the government will try to help local entrepreneurs to be able to market their products to a country in the South Asian region.

"Regarding the development of export markets to Pakistan, we will encourage the export of tissue to the region because it is very likely that Indonesia's diplomatic efforts with local authorities will receive a 0 percent tariff," he said.

On the same occasion, President Director of PT Sun Paper Source Ventje Hermanto said that his company was one of many national corporations that had the opportunity to take part in the "Releasing Exports from Indonesia to the Global Market" program led by President Joko Widodo last year.

"We have a dream to become the largest tissue paper producer in Southeast Asia," he said.

PT Sun Paper Source itself is known to be able to produce more than 150,000 tons of tissue and its derivatives every year.

Meanwhile, the export release event was held in the middle of this week and was also attended by the Deputy Governor of East Java Province Emil Elestianto Dardak, the Regent of Mojokerto Regency Ikfina Fahmawati, and the Head of the Industry and Trade Office of East Java Province Drajat Irawan, as well as officials from PT Sun Paper Source.
