JAKARTA - PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO) emphasized its commitment in leading the transformation of the national herbal industry. The company relies on internal research laboratory facilities as the heart of business movement.

This strategic step is taken to ensure that all herbal products are produced based on strong scientific evidence, while opening up a wide space for collaboration for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

This was revealed in a seminar entitled Transforming Jamu: Bridging Scientific Evidence and Global Market Opportunities which was held as part of the 2026 Nusantara Jamu Festival in commemoration of the 64th Anniversary of the Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW) Yogyakarta on Friday, July 17.

On that occasion, the President Director of PT Sido Muncul, Dr. (H.C) Irwan Hidayat, explained the material regarding Herbalization: from Natural Wealth and Tradition to the Global Market.

In addition to being the main speaker, Irwan's presence is also intended to share experiences, insights, and thoughts regarding the herbalization of herbal medicine, as well as attending the Inauguration of the Herbal Corner and Herbal Garden at the Didaktos UKDW Building together with the Faculty of Medicine and the Biotechnology study program.

Irwan revealed that the key to public confidence in Sido Muncul products so far lies in the company's courage in implementing pharmaceutical industry standards since decades ago. Since 2002, the company has been able to standardize because of the efficiency of conducting scientific tests.

According to him, the existing regulations are recognized as making it difficult to scientifically test herbal medicine because it contains too many active substances. However, Sido Muncul still refers to standardization because it has been moving to develop massive research infrastructure since 1997.

The research facilities built when establishing the new factory include a quality control laboratory, production laboratory, quality assurance laboratory, and Research and Development (R&D) laboratory.

Irwan explained that the step of building a complete facility was taken because he predicted that the future of the herbal industry would not be the same as in 1998, where at that time people tended to accept any herbal product directly without asking much.

This complete laboratory is now the heart of all Sido Muncul's business because the spirit of every modern business is research or research. Without the support of sophisticated tools and qualified Human Resources (HR), Sido Muncul would not be able to achieve its position today.

"The first toxicity mission we did with Diponegoro University (Undip), followed by efficacy tests, and we continue to do everything based on science. As a result, I have spoken in front of the Faculty of Medicine as many as 58 times including at this UKDW," said Irwan Hidayat in his presentation.

The strengthening of the Sido Muncul research sector is getting stronger through the inauguration of a pharmacology laboratory on June 9 which was inaugurated directly by the Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

Irwan said the existence of this facility is very crucial considering that not all pharmaceutical factories have their own pharmacology laboratories.

"The decision to build this internal facility is based on the principle of speed of work, because if the test must always pass through an external university, the protocols faced tend to be long and time consuming," he explained.
