JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is preparing a new regulation for the management of the distribution of diesel fuel (BBM) for fishermen.

Director General of Fisheries Capture KKP Lotharia Latif said the rules were prepared to avoid irregularities in the field and to ensure that the distribution is more targeted.

"Furthermore, we will make rules, mechanisms, and governance for the distribution of this fuel together with related ministries and agencies so that it is targeted and avoids potential irregularities and abuses in the field," said Lotharia in an official statement, Wednesday, July 15.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that the fuel oil (BBM) price policy for fishing vessels above 30 GT-200 GT is IDR 15,000 per liter to maintain the stability of national fisheries production in the midst of the dynamics of world oil prices.

"With more efficient operational costs, fishermen can be more productive at sea, the supply of fish for the community and industry can be maintained, and the competitiveness of Indonesian fisheries will be stronger," said Trenggono.

The determination of the special fuel price of Rp. 15,000/liter for fishermen is a direct order from President Prabowo in a limited meeting with a number of ministers in Hambalang, Bogor, Monday, July 13.

The decision is much lower than the price of fishing diesel and fishing business actors operating ships with a size of 30 to 200 Gross Ton (GT) which have increased to Rp21,300 per liter.

For this reason, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries believes that the provision of subsidies is able to reduce the operational costs of fishing operations while maintaining the productivity and sustainability of the national fisheries sector.
