JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) noted that the average national progress of the new People's School (SR) construction only touched 78 percent ahead of the 2026/2027 new academic year which fell in July 2026.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo revealed that there were a number of technical and logistical obstacles in the field that became the main challenge for accelerating the national strategic project.

"Almost everywhere that uses public access always encounters similar obstacles. Village or district roads are usually not roads that are suitable for heavy equipment to pass through," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Monday, June 15.

Dody explained that the damage to the access road due to heavy vehicles forced the contractor to try to allocate special CSR to repair the work line first so that the distribution of materials could continue.

In fact, in some extreme cases outside Sukoharjo, such as in Brebes, Central Java, the implementation team in the field must build emergency bailey bridges in order to maintain logistics supplies without disturbing the mobility of residents.

Apart from access issues, the challenges of developing SR are also divided based on zoning areas, where projects on Java are currently constrained at the architectural finishing phase which requires details and skilled labor.

Meanwhile, the challenges for SR projects outside Java Island such as Sumatra, Maluku to Sulawesi are much more complex because they are based on connectivity and logistics supply chains from ports.

"The problem is the access to logistics roads from the nearest port or airport to the location of the People's School. Each place has its own problems," he said.

Although the national progress has only reached 78 percent, the Ministry of PU still targets that the main building of elementary, junior high, and high schools can function at a minimum by mid-July.

In particular, the SR 2 Sukoharjo project recorded a positive deviation with physical progress reaching 82.46 percent as of June 14, 2026, which is targeted to be able to penetrate 90 percent when the new school year begins.
