JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the acceleration of the use of alternative energy by shifting part of the LPG consumption to compressed natural gas or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

This step was taken amid the still unstable global geopolitical developments and has the potential to affect the national energy sector.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said the directive was given by the President in a meeting discussing energy conditions and downstream programs at the Presidential Palace, Thursday, June 11.

"The President ordered that alternative energies should be immediately sought. In particular, what we are focusing on now is the acceleration of the transition from LPG to CNG," said Bahlil.

In addition to accelerating the use of CNG, the government also discussed data collection in the mining sector as well as the readiness of national energy supply, including PLN electricity conditions and fuel oil (BBM) availability.

The policy of switching LPG to CNG is one of the government's steps to strengthen national energy resilience in the midst of global uncertainty.

However, the government has not explained further about the implementation scheme, the target of use, and the target time for the transition.
