JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has conveyed 118 potential new oil and gas working areas. This is done to encourage massive exploration activities to increase domestic oil and gas production.

Based on the data status as of May 20, 2026, of the 118 potential new oil and gas work areas, 25 areas have been interested or have signed contracts.

A total of 43 regions are in the joint study phase.

Meanwhile, the rest are other potential oil and gas work areas to be studied together or directly become new oil and gas work areas.

Regarding the optimization of the idle oil and gas structure, the Government appreciates the active efforts of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PT PHE) in encouraging increased production through Operation / Technology Cooperation (KSOT) for the management of idle oil and gas structures.

This is a follow-up to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 14 of 2025 concerning Cooperation in the Management of the Working Area for Increased Oil and Gas Production.

PT PHE has prepared around 41 idle structures for KSOT to be carried out.

Meanwhile, 22 idle structures have been socialized and also announced specifically at IPA Convex 2026.

Of the 22 structures offered, as many as 8 structures are in the operational area of Regional 1 (Sumatra), as many as 4 structures in the operational area of Regional 2 (Java), as many as 7 structures in Regional 3 (Kalimantan) and as many as 3 structures in Regional 4 (East Java and East Indonesia).
