JAKARTA - Taiwan is increasingly aggressive in targeting the Indonesian tourist market through the agritourism sector.
Through the Taiwan Leisure Farm Fair 2026 exhibition held at Emporium Pluit Mall on May 22-24, 2026, Taiwan targets a two-fold increase in Indonesian tourists' visits to rural tourist areas this year.
Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia, Trust H. J. Lin said, Indonesia is a strategic market as the trend of slow travel, healing, and nature-based tourism among young people increases.
"Last year, about 40,000 tourists came to Taiwan's agrotourism. This year, we hope to double to about 80,000 to 90,000 tourists," Trust Lin said in Jakarta, Saturday, May 23.
According to him, Taiwan is now not only relying on urban tourism, but is beginning to expand the promotion of modern rural tourism or leisure farms that combine natural elements, local culture, and environmental sustainability.
The exhibition presents seven of Taiwan's flagship tourist plantations, three national airlines, and ten Indonesian travel agencies with more than 30 thematic travel packages.
Taiwan also strengthens its strategy to attract Indonesian Muslim tourists by improving halal services and Muslim-friendly facilities at tourist destinations.
"We understand that the majority of the Indonesian people are Muslims. Therefore, the Taiwan tourism industry continues to strengthen Muslim-friendly services," he said.
The move is seen as part of Taiwan's strategy to expand the Southeast Asian tourism market while boosting the contribution of the rural tourism sector to the local economy.
