JAKARTA - The construction of the People's School (SR) in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra (Sumsel), continues to be accelerated and is now entering the stage of architectural work and arrangement of the area.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) noted that the physical progress of the project had reached 73.33 percent as of May 18, 2026.

Apart from infrastructure work, current work is also focused on mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) installations and the completion of supporting facilities in the school area.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of SR is part of the government's efforts to expand access to education while supporting the strengthening of human resources (HR) quality.

"The construction of this SR is a tangible form of the government's commitment to building superior human resources. The PU Ministry wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, May 20.

Based on the results of field monitoring, the foundation and structural works on the majority of the main buildings have been completed.

A number of educational facilities, houses of worship, dormitories and supporting buildings are now entering the stage of architectural work and MEP installation gradually.

On the side of the area, the development of supporting facilities such as sports fields and areas is also continuing.

Some of the work has entered the final stage, while other areas are still in the process of completion according to the construction stages.

To accelerate the completion of the project, the PU Ministry has implemented various strategic steps, including optimizing the implementation method using metal decks and wiremesh on the floor plate structure, adding heavy equipment and strengthening the supply of concrete through the support of batching plants at the project site.

The fulfillment of major construction materials and equipment is also being optimized to maintain the smoothness of work and ensure that the development target is achieved according to schedule.

The PU Ministry targets the completion of the structure and roof frame in May 2026.

Then, the facade, architecture, MEP and area arrangement works will be carried out gradually until mid-June 2026.

The acceleration of development is carried out through synergy between the central government, local government and stakeholders so that the project runs according to the planned time, quality and function of educational services.

The Ministry of PU targets that the SR in Ogan Ilir can immediately be functional to support the equalization of access to education and the improvement of human resources quality in South Sumatra.
